读诗丨愿你的道路漫长而惊喜

当你已经变得很聪慧，而且见多识广，你就会明白伊萨卡意味着什么。

伊萨卡是古希腊爱琴海上一个美丽岛国，在荷马史诗中，伊萨卡是神话英雄俄底修斯（奥德赛）的故乡。公元前3200年，国王奥德修斯在征战特洛伊胜利后，经十 七年艰险与诱惑，战胜无数困难，终于回到自己的家乡里，迎接他的是忠贞不渝的妻子和智勇双全的儿子。伊萨卡，从此成为一个永恒的家的信念。这是荷马诗史中 《奥德赛》美丽动人的传说，也是希腊神话故事的经典片段。

Ithaka

As you set out for Ithaka

hope the voyage is a long one,

full of adventure, full of discovery.

Laistrygonians and Cyclops,

angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:

you’ll never find things like that on your way

as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,

as long as a rare excitement

stirs your spirit and your body.

Laistrygonians and Cyclops,

wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them

unless you bring them along inside your soul,

unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.

May there be many a summer morning when,

with what pleasure, what joy,

you come into harbors seen for the first time;

may you stop at Phoenician trading stations

to buy fine things,

mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,

sensual perfume of every kind—

as many sensual perfumes as you can;

and may you visit many Egyptian cities

to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.

Arriving there is what you are destined for.

But do not hurry the journey at all.

Better if it lasts for years,

so you are old by the time you reach the island,

wealthy with all you have gained on the way,

not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.

Without her you would not have set out.

She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won't have fooled you.

Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,

you'll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean

关于诗人

卡 瓦菲斯（C.P.Cavafy,1863-1933），希腊最重要的现代诗人，其诗风简约，集客观性、戏剧性和教谕性于一身。奥登、蒙塔莱、塞弗里斯、埃 利蒂斯、米沃什和布罗茨基等众多现代诗人，都对他推崇备至。 在他死后，收有154首短诗的诗集才得以出版。一般认为，卡瓦菲斯直到三十三岁才写出好诗，其中最重要的诗大多是四十八岁以后所写。
